Dear Potential Inductees,
Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is the only worldwide honor society for nursing. The purpose of this organization is to recognize superior achievement and development of leadership qualities as well as foster high professional standards, and encourage creative work. STTI serves to strengthen nurses’ commitment to the ideals and principles of the profession.
The IUP Zeta Lambda Chapter of STTI is currently using the following application packet for nursing students, both undergraduate and graduate, who would like to apply for membership. Please read the qualifications for membership, and fill out the appropriate forms. If you do not meet the grade criteria, but believe you display leadership qualities, please consider applying. Although application does not guarantee acceptance for membership, the executive committee of Zeta Lambda are concerned with recognizing student nurse leaders as well as those with high academic performance. Note also that the application requires two endorsements. The criteria for these are included in the following documents.
The application packet is due each year by FEBRUARY 22. Please download and complete a hard copy of the application packet for submission to Pat Hockensmith (#259 Johnson Hall), President of Zeta Lambda Incomplete applications will not be considered and they must be submitted via hard copy either through the office secretary placing the copy in Pat Hockensmith's mail box (#210 Johnson Hall) or by placing your submission under or on her office door.
We encourage all qualified students to apply for membership to Zeta Lambda, STTI. Successful applicants will be honored at the annual induction ceremony held in April. Details about the induction ceremony, including cost, will be available on the Zeta Lambda website. Membership Criteria
Students are invited to join the honor society through one of 469 chapters located at more than 586 colleges and universities around the world. To find out more about chapters in your region, review the Chapter Directory.
Undergraduate Students must
* have completed ½ of the nursing curriculum (second semester, junior year);
* achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher);
- rank in the upper 35 percentile of the graduating class;
- meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Registered Nurse Students must
* have completed 12 credit hours at current school;
- have completed ½ of the nursing curriculum;
- achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher);
- rank in the upper 35 percentile of graduating class;
- meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Graduate Students (Master's and Doctorate) must
* have completed ¼ of the nursing curriculum;
- achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.5 or higher);
- meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Nurse Leader Candidates must
- be legally recognized to practice nursing in his/her country;
- have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field;
- demonstrate achievement in nursing.
Cost of Membership
The cost of membership to Zeta Lambda, STTI is $85 per year. This includes $65 for the international fee, and $20 for the chapter fee.
